How did I get where I am today? Happily, sitting here with my hundreds of pages of homework done for today, thinking about teaching tomorrow, my amazing husband playing our new Xbox 360 in the background.
Back in 2006 things weren't so awe-inspiring for me. Yes, I was nearly done writing a major novel. I was taking care of my now-deceased grandma, living in a small town and taking a few months off of work to care for grandma and write. Yet, my dreams of returning to school were denied by the negative relationship I was in. Much of my life was denied by being with the wrong person.
Life has been good to me. I have lived and worked in Beijing China, near Hong Kong, in Los Angeles, and Phoenix. I have a Bachelors with English honors. During my time in college I got to meet Lech Walesa, Ralph Nader, Howard Wyman, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Kucinich, the then president of Ghana, etc.
In the working world I held down multiple jobs during college including peer minister, security guard and school bus driver.
Well that is the past and I am glad. The last two years have been incredible, the best of my life.
